  • Adder, Subtractor, or Multiplier

The thought for the day on radio 2 this morning asked how you consider yourself.

A adder makes those around them feel better about themselves,

A subtractor sucks the energy out of those, stifling them,

A multiplier, give to others the gift and ability to benefit many times over.

I have considered it today, and I don't think its clear cut, to some I would consider myself a subtractor, to others I'm an adder, I'm not sure if I've ever been a multiplier.

How would you consider you and your relationships.

To me the GYO'ers here are massive adders, and on occasions generous multipliers.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

What about the Dividers? Is that someone who makes you feel insecure and uncertain about making a decision?

I think they would still be subtractors VC.

My French neighbour called me a 'mother hen'
now- to be honest I wasn't too pleased cos I went with the idea that a mother hen interfers and is overprotective

When I asked another French friend was it a vague insult , she laughed and said No- it means you're very thoughtful and caring
        Not too much??? I asked
Nope- apparently over here it's a nice turn of phrase

( gosh I hope she wasn't trying to make me feel OK by telling white fibbywibs!)

If that's correct- interesting how culturally different the same phrase is interpreted!

Mikey- I'm a mixture of all 3 too depending on who I'm with and my mood - mostly an adder and multiplier.

I would have said a mother hen was caring too, not interfering in any way.
As for whether I'm an adder, subtractor or multiplier, - I was never any good at maths so someone else will have to work it out - but don't tell me the answer!

dunno.....I cheer some people up, but not others
there's a bloke that I have to work for for the time being, he's a massive tool. I can say that because it's not swearing. He is a subtractor, but seems to think he's a multiplier. I've seen him make one woman cry already....so today, I subtracted him by making him angry/shout at me, it was very satisfying, because it just completely eroded his self-belief that he was lovely
              I feel good

Judge me by my posts about the plot rent stuff. I really want to help those facing huge rent increases to help themselves and now I'm having a half dozen mini hob nobs and a cuppa

I guess I'm all three at some point. I expect we all are - it's human nature after all. I try not to be a subtractor, but there are some people who bring out the worst in me.

To be all three is to be a perfectly balanced individual - not something you men would know much about...

I think how you react to people depends on the people around you. Some people cheer you up and lift your soul, so you then react the same way and the chain reaction continues. Nobody can be cheery about everything all of the time though. My Nan and my mum both say 'I can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time'.

There are certain people on this forum whose posts I head straight for because I know they will lift my spirits, possibly because we have a similar sense of humour, I don't know.

I know plenty of subtractors, I seem to attract them.

                          Me, I think I'm a multiplier: I teach
