Raised beds? Chop the oak tree up and use it for firewood?

Don't be downbeat. As Zaz suggests, post some piccies if you can and we'll help with ideas. A friend of Mr R's got a really awkward plot about three years ago and in great shape now - his is on a hill, too. His did come with a bonus though, a resident homeless bloke in the 'shed' (fours doors leaning on each other).

Dig a gully across the top for the road water to go into, and then a drain pipe down the side to the bottom of the lower patch into water tanks

no soil loss and instant water supply

And raised beds would stop it too, if theres a scaffolding company anywhere near you they may sell you their 2nd hand planks cheap. One 25m from here charges around �1.50 for 6ft planks, but more than double for long ones cos they're more useful than short lengths.

the plot they have offered you sounds like my 1/4 acre field i'm using at the moment , It's flat at the top 60' by 20' then at 45 deg for 60' by 60' then flat again 60' by 20 '.
Mine was full of budlia and ivy / bindweed and has just taken a year to clear and get dug over .
I'm terracing the middle part and using the flats as is , A good option would be to build a chicken run on the slope as the chickens won't care it's not flat.

just been back to the plot / ski slope I've been offered with the kids.I've been told by the council that the access is from the bottom via about 100 steps and through another plot and I can't make a access from the road or park at the top .the plot next door has about 30 chickens running around and goats on it and he said the fence fell over more like kicked over to allow his chickens and goats to run around on the unused plots , and he's sub letting his plot from a widow of a plot holder who died 3 years ago

he's number 20 on the waiting list . what's the point of a waiting list if the council let this happen.
the house owner next to the plot said the council have tried to sort out the water problem at top by putting extra road drains in .he says road takes all the water from moors and is like a river when it rains flowing over the edge onto the plot.
this explains why its never been used for growing anything on it
I'm turn this plot down and waiting for a better one which the kids can stand up on , without ending up in a heap at the bottom
