I agree totally. Mind you, I was guilty of parking in disabled bays without a disabled ticket last year when I took my father in law shopping after he broke his foot. There should be a 'temporary disabled badge' available for those who have done themselves an injury - pushing a chap in a wheelchair around the whole carpark when you have ME is no fun!! Would never consider it otherwise.

Hi

Quote "Why then do the cyclists still cycle along the road?"

I dont cycle very much these days, but when I did I often thought it was safer to use the road than the cycle paths.
If you can imagine just cycling up the road, lets say 1 foot from the curb, all the cars can see you, shouldnt be any danger.
Or usuing the ill thought out cycle lanes, one minute you are on the pavement next on the road next on the pavement, then you rejoin again. And thats ignoring the pedestrians.

that's EXACTLY my point. Every day, people are trying to use wheelchairs and pushchairs on pavements, but they are blocked by selfish parking. It is just as bad to park next to a dropped kerb - try manoevering a heavy wheelchair down off a pavement with a high kerb, twenty times a day.

Perhaps this is why you get motorised scooters using the road and holding up the traffic? Cos they can't get up and down the pavements

And how many times have you cycled down the cycle lane to find a car parked on it? And when you pull out to pass the offending car the driver opens his door and says "sorry I didn't see you"

As ever, Grandpa, you speak a great deal of sense - I have a garage and a parking spot at tthe back of my house. I have one car, I park in the garage. A visitor can park in the parking spot. Oh - did I tell you that not only is my insurance less expensive because I declare that I park in my garage - but my car IS safer because that I park in my garage.
I am lucky enough to have a two car drive and a garage but cant get my car in the garage nor can most pof my neighbours as the door is too narrow without taking the wingmirrors off. Besides my garage is full of much more important stuff - like half a greenhouse, a half dozen bags of compost, etc and loads of pots and junk.

No jokes about middle aged men with big cars please its only a 2 litre toyota

1) car in bike lane...and on double yellows....even though there is a HUGE gap on the other side of the road, where he is supposed to park. Sheer ruddy ignorance

2) 3 cars on pavement and double yellows...even though there is a near-empty car park on t'other side of road.

3) and 4) car park with just one lonely car in it.

5) we have some good off-road bike lanes in my town. Problem is they don't join up to each other! The end of one is on left of photo, the rest of the bike lane is off on the horizon...over the roundabout and on the other side of the road. Are we meant to levitate from one to the other? This road is usually tres busy with fast cars: try negotiating this roundabout with a six year old...not fun at all. (Its quiet today because there are roadworks and the traffic is diverted someplace else)

Is that a school entrance on the other side of the road?

Definitely not, it's not just a playgroup, the Midwives, Health Visitors and baby clinics are all based there too. Recognised the road from Two Sheds pictures - I live next door to the centre!!
