  • 5 days away from the internet.....

Last week, on the spur of the moment I decided that I would exit myself from the tinterweb.
Of course I had to use it for work but for play it was a definite no go area.
No Facebook, personal email, forums etc etc.
My iPad got put to bed.
To replace the internet I read some books (Joy Larkham!), watched a bit of TV (not much, hubby is football mad) and generally just relaxed as I would have done 10 years ago.

I lasted 5 days, during which I was quite enlightened. I've had a 4 month Facebook break before but never a break from the Internet in its entirety.

Those 5 days were great, I 100% concentrated on my life and not on a little touch screen. But, I have to admit that I need this little touch screen, I had to watch the news rather than read it, I had to actually phone someone rather than message them!

I'm not entirely sure where I am going with this but it was a good experiment.

I prefer to holiday in places with no internet, makes for much better rejuvenation

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Totally agree, when we go to North Ayrshire there is no internet, you can get it now and again on your phone but on the whole nothing! We have an indoor television aerial so you can imagine the amount of channels we get. So it's just relaxing, reading and generally being lazy! So enjoyable especially if the weather is good.

I think its a bit like alcohol.

Good to stay off it periodically just to be sure you can, but if you can....you don't really have to

Actually, I'm pretty much teetotal since Dave started working nights...but I do routinely give up things if I feel they are becoming too important to me.
Sometimes, as with the telly and mobile phones, I never go back. Been without both of those things for many years now.

I would love for our house to become an internet / electronic gadget free zone but I would miss you all too much.

It's certainly an experience isn't it!?

Me and the other half made a vow last Christmas that from 11.59 on Christmas eve until 8am on Dec 27th all social media was banned.. We kept the phones for family/friends texts calls etc but it was amazing how much more time you have when you're not glued to a mobile, and the kids got loads more attention too, a lot of games!

There is also a small campsite right on the Norfolk coast we go to every year, as soon as you enter the long driveway the phone signal drops, then thats it... no phone!
                It's just us.. really ideal.

so much different from the day to day hustle and bustle that for the most part I cant escape from!
