Sounds a bit intimidating, a 6' 1" Amazonian Matriarch!!!

A 5'13" lady is less daunting though!

Lol Benacre!! Leave my feet out of it!

I always describe myself as 5'13", it sounds smaller than 6'1"!! Plus makes people think a bit! lol!

Anyhows, back on topic, we've just been given our second plot, so I guess we could be described as some of those greedy gits that have more than one plot too now!!! Lol!

Our first plot has the fruit fedge, a decent sized fruit bed, the small shed, the 8' by 10' greenhouse, a wildlife pond, a permanent asparagus bed and 6 other beds of various sizes, but to grow everything we want to, to make ourselves as virtually self sufficient for veg as we can, including potatoes we are going to need more room!

The second plot is not a full plot, but one that an old lady has, and its too big for her, so we are going to take on about 2/3rds of it, and thus help her out! It will also double the room for brassicas, add some more fruit and give us a large enough area fgor spuds, so I dont consider it OTT for our needs! As we will also be sharing a portion of our produce with the lady that had the plot before us, plus sharing excess produce with friends and family then I dont think we are going to be considered as greedy by any that know us!

I do agree that some folks who dont cultivate their plots and wont let them go need to be sorted out, and that those that are using them for financial gain need to be tackled, but those who gain benefit and pleasure, and who manage to keep them tidy are another thing altogether.

Just found out today that people rent as many plots as possible so when the councils close them down they will get more per plot than if they have just one. It does not matter they are not cultivated. they are just thinking of the money

I dont think you quite get the humour Alice otherwise you would take it in the spirit of fun that Mrs D does. There is no need for your insight into my ego, flagging or otherwise, or the presumption that we need to keep women in their place which may be your experience with men, but certainly not mine with women.

That could be arranged but I fear the results would put me in a wheelchair, no gentle airbrushing it is. Pity my flagging ego please!

Lol!! I thought you were joking with the poster idea at first PW, but that reply sounded so genuine I'm not so sure now!

Mind you, if it comes out alright (the poster from the printers you mucky minded lot!), then perhaps we've a business opportunity there PW, imagine how much some of the male grapes would pay for a GYO calendar, featuring some of the female grapes!!

Oh, go on LJ, just think of all the money we could raise for a good cause! Perhaps Children in Need or maybe one of the charities that one of the grapes is involved with?

Sorry Peter I didnt explain very well,

Its A0 EACH

Good Idea Mrs D about the calender, I did one a few years ago for our rugby club and was hiding my slight embarasment along with the other two in the front row as we were pictured crouching ready to engage, rugby bods will know what I mean by that saying so no naughtiness please. Everything was hidden by shadow.

Anyway, I am up for tasteful nudity if a grape calender ever gets out. Now Mr Tudor, think of the publicity in that !!!!!!!!!!

And to quote from the calender girls film Mrs D "We may need considerably bigger buns"

I didnt mention anything about being NUDE in a calendar PW!!!!!!

I'd be sued by the photographers for breaking the glass in their lenses if I were nude PW (plus I dont think they've a wide enough angle lens yet invented! lol), and imagine the scene, as Greenpeace run onto the set, demanding I get put back into the water immediately! (Beached whale joke, in case you didnt get it!)

I've got the regulation tennis court sized allotment and as I have no garden at all look on it as a mix of garden and allotment with flowers, wildlife areas and a place to sit in the sun, with the shed and greenhouse, 8 compost bins, 6 waterbuts and a 30ft x 8ft area that has trees ( and now flowers) it is quite a chunk out of my space. I am gradually working my way through reclaiming it all but if you want to grow potatoes, beans for drying, tomatoes for sauce, fruit etc to keep you going as long as possible it doesn't seem enough, so am seriously thinking about taking up another one in the autumn when an old friend retires from his immaculately kept plot.
This will make me a multi-allotment holder. There are still unkempt plots on our site, at least two lots started last year and gave up in double quick time, so not taking anything from anyone else, should I feel bad about that?
Sue

Not at all Sue, If you can maintain it, just justify it and if you justify it there can be no real argument for having two.

Have to agree Sue, one plot isnt big enough to grow everything we want to, plus I'm planning on making enough passatta and tomato ketchup to last us a year, so methinks at least a greenhouse full of toms AND at least 10 or 12 outdoor bushes are the bare minimum to grow enough! (We eat a lot of toms, especially when I'm using them in cooking!)

So have to agree with your viewpoint and say well done and if you can do it, then go for it! Its what we are doing anyhows!

PS there are still several unlet plots and at least 1/3 of the let plots are in a pretty bad state, with no waiting list and few takers, so while they are going spare I have no problem with taking another!

I aim to do the same Mrs D and will have a polytunnel full of tomatoes and another full of peppers and chillies. This obviously cuts into ground free to grow other things on and if you grow lots of squash like we do to last through the hungry gap, even two isnt enough.
