18th Birthday Pressie ideas?

This is a hard one, my son for his 21st wanted an ironing board he needed one, he got one along with 21 silly presents that didnt cost a lot but was so funny, he also got some money later in the year as did all my kids.
My great nieces are aged 1yr and two 4yr olds, when they were born I gave them a silver charm bracelet and a stork, every year I give them a charm usually something to do with what they are doing / into at the time. My daughter and my niece get the same from my sister. At 21 yrs they will get one with a birth stone.
My great nephew however, I dont have a clue what to get that he can keep.
This doesnt help you though.

My daughter's 18th more or less coincided with her going to uni. Mum & grandparents looked after the girlie stuff; I got her a large plastic storage box and filled it with all kinds os stationery - ring binders, A4 pads, sellotape, stapler, card document holders, hole puncher, you get the idea. And topped it off with a daypack, not a roughy - toughy climbing one, but suitable for a teenage girl going to college. Maybe not very romantic( don't think that's quite the word I'm looking for) but it was very much appreciated

And I've just remembered, for my 21st ( that was the age of majority years ago) I asked for, and got, life membership of the Youth Hostels Association

I have always been interested in walking, but have also used it whan staying in a strange city, when going for job interviews, and so on. It is valid in other countries, and it will also get you discount at some outdoor equipment stores, including Blacks and Millets

I got a really nice watch for my 18th birthday, every time I looked at it I remembered what a special day I got it on.

If she has a driving licence how about a driving experience at a motor racing circuit?

Closest to you would be Mallory Park (Leicester), Silverstone (Norfolk) or Snetterton (Norfolk).

Other than that, a trial flying lesson (Humberside airport)

I remember - and still have! - A beautiful piece of stirling silver 'lace' that was an 18th gift from my Aunt Margaret. I was the biggest tomboy going (in several senses of the word!) Hated the idea of make-up, brushing my hair, wearing anything except trousers and I think I still qualify as seriously booky! Possibly to the extent of Geek!

But I love that piece of jewelry - it goes with anything, it changes a mundane outfit into something special but is still sufficiently 'plain' to be an everyday piece.

I am now 42!

What is she planning to do next year? Uni/college/year out/travel/work?

Something to do with travel?
Rough guides travel subscription, a special suitcase, travel journal.

Or, if she likes historical uk places etc a membership for English Heritage or National Trust.

Dont know if you would have the time Rhona, but I'm actually thinking about doing this for me.
A map of the world (not sure about space etc but I have a huge one, bought from a well known Swedish store) with a little picture, bank note, souvenir of every country she's visited. Not only would it be a pressie for her 18th, but also it's a pressie that can keep on growing.

If your daughter likes to have fun, why not treat her to "Sphereing" is not overly expensive, and is great fun, one of my friends did this for her son for his 20th birthday, it cost �59 for him and his girlfriend, they loved it. Or there's always "Paint Balling" now that is fun, this was a pressie i bought O.H for his birthday 2 years ago, �79 for 4 people, so you could join in. All from " Don't shop for it " A...S it", but i'm sure what ever you buy her, she'll love it.
