Default Gardeners world

I want to have a go at making the garlic slug repellent that the hosta collection woman on last night's GW uses but can't remember what goes in it or how she makes it.

Does anyone who watched GW last night remember what went into it and how she makes it.

Thanks in advance

Phil

wasn't it two cloves per two pints, crushed and boiled and then diluted to water the plants. That's pretty much what I remember, but you could go to the iplayer and watch again.

It was 2 heads of garlic to 2 pints pf water boiled for a few mins then made back up to 2 pints again. Add 1 tablespoon of garlic solution per 1 gallon of water, she also said to water on in the day so it gets chance to dry on the leaves.

That's exactly how I remember it too.
Do you think it would work on all plants not just hostas?
Not got any hostas as my last garden was OVERRUN with them and it took me years to get rid of them all. But got lots of slug-loving plants.

Missed the programme but will have a go with garlic as my hostas are beginning to suffer the dreaded holes

I'm hoping so Janeyo; I was thinking of trying it on whatever I plant this spring because I hate using slug pellets and nothing else seems to work.

Thanks for the link Quark; I've book marked it so I don't lose it

I bought a garlic spray to use on my plants & I think it seems to be having some effect but I think I'll have a go at making my own from the G.W. lady's recipe when it runs out, probably works out a lot cheaper!

I was thinking about trying this, but on my veg plants (slug city both at home and on the plot =- grrrrr). Would this leave a garlic taste on all my veggies though?

If so, it'll save time when making soups!
