Default Do you know this book?

Following on from the Favourite Authors thread, I was thinking about books to take away on holiday and it got me thinking about a book I read once, but I can't remember the author, or the name of the book.

All I can remember is that it was a slightly satirical book, with a black cover and a sort of swastika on the front. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with spelling or advertising as part of the story line.

Any ideas?

Thanks for looking, lol.

I'm sure it was a one-word title, and it might have begun with "s"....

Nope. I'm sure the word was similar to Metropolis - but obviously not Metropolis.

Driving me mad now........

Apparantly, putting a swastika on the cover of your book boosts sales by up to 30%. No wonder there are a lot of them!

Thought of it yet Wayne?

Woohooo!!!

I didn't remember it, but remembered that someone else in the office had. Asked him, and he knew straight away.

Here it is: Amazon.co.uk: Books: Incompetence (Gollancz S.F.)

Ok, so it wasn't a swastika, but I was close.

And it didn't begin with s!

i am still trying to locate a book that I read when I was about 13; about a girl with diabetes, she kept sampling her dog's wee; and pretty much hibernated in a cave, got really fat and the description of her preening herself when she decided to come out of the cave [whether this was metaphorical or real, I never worked out] was just too insipid to ever ask anyone.

I think her name was Felicity though...

I liked the book - enough to nearly remember it anyway! Never read anything else of his, but I will probably try a couple of others. Not keen on Red Dwarf myself.

Not on hols until September, but I like to organise these things in advance. We've got a villa in Tuscany with some friends, about 8-10 of us going. In the middle of nowhere, our own pool. Reeeeeeeally looking forward to it, 2 weeks away from work (well, that's the idea anyway).

And thats definitely what I call getting well organised in advance - I'd have read any books I bought now well before September!

Welcome to my world, it's no wonder I can never find anything!

LadyWayne does call me Dory on account of my rubbish memory.

In my defence it was a book I read about 8 years ago that I picked up in the "library" of a hotel we were staying at in Turkey.

There's room for 10 at the villa...

Any tips on where to go? We're staying near a place called Radicondoli.
