I was thinking on this one today. from very little I have always believe in the butterfly effect (you know - a butterfly flapsi t's wings here and it causes a storm somewhe else...)

I used to drive my car to school but one day it was in the grage so I got a bus. As I got off t my stop and old fiend I hadn't seen since primary school got on. We quickly exchanged numbers and promised to meet up again. That summer I met a friend of his who turned out to be Mr Shortie's best friend (and still is). But even then I only met My Shortie because he happened to take him along to a night club we were all at one day. We're now 5 years married with 2 kids. All because my car was in the garage

Anyone else had similar? Not just around finding partners, but anything

All the people that Trousers and I have met since we moved here from Buckinghamshire. Almost every single person has led us to something either downright 'Gorgeous' in terms of friendship, or 'How Spooky Is That?' in some kind of similarity to what we know and love in terms of familiarity to give us that Warm Glow...

Shortly after moving to a new house I went to visit my Mum about 45 miles away. On the way there, I saw a road and I wondered where it went to. It was a sunny day and I thought, what the heck, I've got time to spare so I took the turning and ended up in another part of town, the whole detour took me about 10 minutes.

I carried on my journey and came to a major road crossing (very fast dual carridgeway) and there was an almighty accident with ambulances, fire engines and police all in attendance. It seemed to be very recent, perhaps happening only 10 minutes earlier ...

I think that I would have been in the middle of that accident had it not been for my detour.

Yep both Wayne and moggssue have got it. Its more about the cause/effect the other side of the world, rather than just one small chance thing (leaving your car in the garage) causing many small incremental effects leading to something big (marriage and kids ).

Chaos theory revolves around the idea that the same pattens (often in apparently random things...dripping taps, waterfalls,weather etc,) are repeated, but at various scales. James Gleick (published by Cardinal) wrote a good book on the subject...which I had the pleasure of wading through at University. The best bit was definitely the fractals (Particularly Mandelbrot set)..sort of paisley patterns that have similarities as you zoom in further and further). You often used to see them as flyers for early raves ( hmm, reputedly! I was obviously too busy studying !!!) I have an excellent generation programme on my other puter that I might be able to get onto disc and load on here to e-mail if anyone is interested. I am sure they are out there on the web though.
