Tell you what, I'll swap you Reet, I'd love to do it all again but this time with three times the patience They do say it's a pity you can't have your grandchildren first!

I've just had one niece for 2 days and her little sister, mum and dad joined her for the other 3 - and although it was exhausting I'd happily have them both back for another couple of weeks as they are such fun. If they start squabbling, a good dousing with a hose seems to work [note to self: never leave a 4 yr old in charge of a hose when her sister is nearby = one soaking wet 8 yr old and a very wet kitchen floor].

B*gger, the roads will be heaving again

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm afraid I'm the other way round. I don't find the holidays long enough. I teach and the summer holiday is the only part of the year where I can recharge my batteries and start to feel half human again after the total exhaustion that has usually overcome me by the end of the summer term. The other holidays give some respite but really are an opportunity to catch up on paperwork without being interrupted by teaching!! I find myself web browsing now as an distraction from doing more planning. Best get back to it!

LOL, you sound like my OH

Wendy, makes me wonder how teachers who happen to be parents feel about the summer break -
the parent half wanting the kids to go back and the other wishing the holidays were longer

It's certainly easier now my boys are older and do their own thing. At least I can get to the allotment in peace!

Reet...I know. Love them, guilt about wanting time off, wishing I had a huge football-pitch-style floodlight in the back garden so I could garden when they're in bed...

I know you're not! We have parents who live in the village, drive their kids in and then drive home again :O

Have pity on us in Ireland. Schools here get 12 weeks holidays in Summer. My son finished on June 1st and my daughter who was in transition year (year between three year course to first state exam and two year course to final state exam) finished on May 26th. Both go back next Monday. It's a long, long summer with two teenagers and lots of bad weather!
