Nice to have you back in Blighty Snake, have you managed to check your plot yet?

There are map sites with more up to date maps, but I'm not sure how easy it is to set up a "group" map. Now that most people have added themselves to the map I started at the beginning of this thread I daren't suggest another one like this: Live Local Search

The birds eye view thing is great (where it works!).

That's so cool HW, loved the old map, but this is great, you can see where I've cleared my plot!
Now, how do I add myself to your new map

These are the destructions they give:

Add items to a collection
Sign in to Live Search Maps with your Windows Live ID (The user name and password that you use to sign in to any Windows Live, MSN, or Office Live sites and services. If you have a Passport Network, Hotmail, or Messenger account, you can use it as your Windows Live ID.) .
In the search box, type a search term, and then click Search.
In the results pane, below the search result that you want to add, click Add to collection.
Select the collection that you want to add the item to, and then click Save.
Note
You can also add items to a collection by right-clicking at the location on the map, and then clicking Add a pushpin.

Make sense?

Oh wow!! Now if I could just get a tad closer on your new map HW I could see what was grown where on the plot before me - would help no end in my planning It's a hell of a lot clearere than the google one!

Some people have commented that the maps aren't that up to date (which is true), just thought I'd make another suggestion that was all.

If you want truly up to date maps, have a look here: Flash Earth ...satellite and aerial imagery of the Earth in Flash Look at the NASA ones - can't zoom in very far, and you need good weather to see anything at all.

I wasn't suggesting that any map site was the ideal solution, it was just an idea that needs some refining and an expert touch, maybe to be a feature of the forum as marialittlebzz suggested.

Bit of fun though either way.

No, of course I don't mind - I'd never have figured it out for myself. Thank you. Wish I could find something constructive to do when I can't sleep.

The newer map must have been taken in the spring of 2006 (I can tell because of the location of the spuds - this crop rotation comes in handy for far more than pest control) It also shows the horrific state of the plot next door - to the North, and this is depressing because we've just taken it on and it's obviously had another 2 years' to run wild since then.

Just wondering, was all - thought there was a reasonable take-up of google map and it gave enough info? One of the things to remember when looking at some of these mapping sites is the computer power needed to display them and even the connection needed - don't think everyone runs the latest pc over broadband?

If you don't give them a choice, then Google Maps will either stand or fall!
