Default How stupid can you get? A cautionary tale ..

.. one evening, in a hurry to feed OH before he dashed out to a meeting, a certain grape lit the gas hob before changing out of work attire. This attire included a thin scarf which, in contact with flame, is prone to lighting up like a firework ... OH missed his meeting because he took the grape to hospital suffering from burns to chest and shoulder. Let this be a warning to all ...

Ouch! Hope its not too painful and a swift recovery is possible, with no permanent scaring!

Oh no! Glad you're okay(ish), that must have been quite a scare for you. Hope there's no permanent damage?

Well, liquid morphine is a wonderful substance!!! It was painful for a couple of days but isn't too bad now. Cant wear a seatbelt or carry a handbag but definitely on the mend thank you, though I do need to see a hairdresser, one side is about 2inches shorter than the other! I still can't believe I actually did such a silly thing! Hospital thinks there might be some slight scarring but it's not in a place that sees the light of day too often these days so not a problem!

Phew Moggsue, sounds painful and traumatic.

Hope things are progressing now and that you'll make a full and speedy recovery. I found any form of spirit sold in supermarkets can have the same tranquiising effect and from what I remember much more pleasant than the morphine.

Hope you're feeling a bit better now Moggsue, take it easy. It is the sort of thing any of us could do, I'm surprised I've not blown the kitchen up here before now but luckily I've not set myself on fire yet (touch wood etc.!) just singed the odd bit!

Poor you Moggsue, I hope you're doing well at this stage. Cautionary tale heard loud and clear (we just got a gas hob after growing up with leccie).

OMG! You poor thing, how scarey. Hope you're starting to feel better. once the skin has healed, vit e oil might help reduce any scaring.

Yikes, a cautionary tale indeed. Just as well I rarely wear anything as glamorous as a scarf! Hope you are all better soon.

A good point to remember Moggsue. Some years ago (????) when I was nursing, a colleague invited me to join her in the ward for something to eat. She opened the oven door and set out to take whatever she had from the poly bag. At this point the poly bag went SOOK! Melted poly bag all over the oven door! Nobody burned, but a great big smelly mess to clean. Hope you are well and nothing too seriously wrong. Everybody be careful - it's so easy to do.

I sympathise Moggsue - it must hurt something terrible. And it is quite a shock.

I did something similar three years ago with a candle (mopped up the wax with a piece of kitchen towel and set light to the kitchen towel) which burnt my hand terribly. We wonder why we do such silly things, but it just didn't seem silly at the time. Probably my head thinking about something completely different to what I was doing.

Glad to hear that everything is ok, but take care of yourself, you will need a bit of pampering for a bit.

Oh, you poor thing! I hope you heal quickly and it wasn't too traumatising.

Hope you get better soon!

Yes I learnt my lesson a few months ago with our gas hob when the 'spark thing' wasn't clicking. Stupid me just kept trying, gas pouring out etc. Then there was a WHOOMP as it finally caught. I jumped back really quickly (thank God) but stood there really shocked for a few seconds!

Thanks all, for the good wishes. A bit more mobile today at last, and the dressing was changed this morning for a much smaller one so the burnt area seems to be receding nicely!

I have to say it was very scary at the time, seeing flames dancing around on my chest and hair wasn't the best experience I've had, but luckily it wasnt as bad as it could have been.

Lainey - thanks for the tip, I'll try some vit e cream when I can touch the area!
Tony - now that I'm off the morphine I'm definitely on the spirit to sooth ruffled feathers haha!
