  • Will copper slug tape stick to wood?

I'm bored waiting for the wood to arrive for my gardening exploits so I'm sat here thinking and I've got another plan.

As my polytunnel frame will be raised by sitting it on 4" x 4" timber, I was thinking about wrapping copper slug tape all the way round the bottom of the wood. Would it stick though?

Or maybe I could staple it on?

I've not actually seen this stuff in the flesh so to speak so I'm not sure how well it would stick.

I figure that by doing this and also sitting the tunnel on 2 layers of Geotextile membrane, I should be able to keep most of the nasties out although I'm sure a few determined ones will get in no matter what.

I'm also thinking I could collect a few worms and rehome them in my raised beds. So the good beasties will be in and the nasties will be kept out.

So, will the tape stick? Or can it be stapled?

It's not very good to be honest. I've watched slugs crawl over it. It might deter the smaller ones, but the larger ones will put up with it.

If you were going to use it, then you may want to tack it on, as it won't stick that well to rough timber.

The worms will make their own way in, you won't need to put them in..

      Ah, thanks.

(The tunnel will be on hardstanding so there won't be worms coming up from the ground.)

I have tried it on wood and it does stick...The question you should ask is, does it stay there?
        Answer is No, afraid not!!

So why are you putting geotex membrane down?

Because there are broken areas here and there where weeds grow through and I'm taking the belt and braces approach.
