  • Securing log roll lawn edge

    Hi.
My square lawn had a pea shingle path on 2 sides when I moved in.
Now I want to extend the path around another side. Ive bought some
logroll from Tescos, six inch long half logs wired together in 1.8 metre
strips. I dug out the lawn where the path is going, but am not sure
how to fix the logroll against the edge of the lawn. Do I just bang it
in, cement it, or use another method?

My only experience with that type of log roll wasn't a happy one ...
I just banged it into the ground, it was fairly solid. However, it never, ever looked straight no matter how many pairs of hands held itin place, while bashing it in. It did the job required though I.e. edging the lawn.

Could you bang a small post in the ground where the middle of the last "log" will be. it will need to be just shy of 6" sticking out of the ground. Then nail or screw the log roll to the post. You could do this at intervals along the roll to hold it up. Or attach the post and then bang it in the ground.

In the past I have cut the edge of the lawn flat then held the log roll in place with a plank staked with 2 pegs to keep it in place then just malleted the log roll down before back filling in place.I have found it needs replacement every 3~4 years though as it tends to rot in my soggy clay soil
