  • Heras fencing / site fencing / security fencing - how to get get some?

    Hi folks,

I'm after some Heras style fencing for a project and was wondering if anyone here knew of a way of getting some cheap! I've looked on the various auction and secondhand websites and they're about £19 per panel and without resorting to visiting a building site in the wee hours of the morning (that's a joke) i can't see how i'm going to get my hands on some!

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks,

    Stan

Heras panel are used all the time on contruction sites and when the build is complete, they just get cut up and skipped.

Get a hacksaw, cut the vertical struts off and then bend the whole panel into the first half of a polytunnel.

Cable tie rip-stop transparent tarp to the underside of the panel and "voi la" your first half of your plot polytunnel.

    Q: What's your idea ?

I bought mine on the 'Bay. You could try Shpock, Preloved etc, but £19 a panel is cheap - they're usually £25 plus delivery here in East Anglia.

I doubt much of the fencing will be skipped unless it is damaged. It can always be used on the next site and much of it is only hired anyway.

On sites in London if the site is ongoing for a year say, then the fencing is bought outright. Its not that expensive. Are you really gonna pay weekly rental on fence panels for 52+ weeks...

Time is money on big sites....

Its cheaper to get one of the labourers with a reciprocating saw to quarter the panels and leave it out for the scrap metal man.

The OP is from 'east of Swindon - middle of nowhere' - not everywhere in the rest of the UK is blessed with such excessive capital projects that London experiences. (No disrespectful meant to East of Swindon, or anywhere else in the UK).

As spamvindaloo correctly mentioned, on many sites this type of fencing is rented - any damaged/unusable panels would then be sold for scrap.
If the OP can barter a better deal for the company who's responsibility it is to dispose of any unusable panels - then best of luck to them.

Have to say, having worked on many sites throughout this region, I have never seen these panels chopped-up as waste, at the end of a job - unless they were damaged beyond repair.

Why not just ask on a site if they have any slightly damaged ones they don't need? Neil asked a guy who's on a site here in Alnwick and he was told the best person to speak to was such-and-such who was back on site at 8.30am next day. He was going to cobble a few together to make me a new polytunnel

The worst they can do is say no

I git some off eBay in the end from a company that has gone into liquidation. Much cheaper than I had found previously.
