  • Easy DIY Log Cutting Frame.

If you are reading this then I assume you have a log burner. I know what a pain it can be to cut branches on a conventional log horse so I came up with this. It's basically 2 "H" sections fastened to a pallet.................: You could beef it up to suit your needs.

Pic1: The frame with wheelbarrows in position. The saw is there just to show there are cross members attached & the branches do not rest on the wheelbarrows. The distance between the 2 H's is just under twice your burners width if that makes sense, this ensures the logs when cut will go in your burner:

Pic2: Load the frame up with branches to be cut & secure in place. I use bungee cords as they adjust with tension but you could use chain or rope:

Pic3: Cut of the ends of the branches to lengths suitable for your burner:

Pic4: Cut down the middle of the remaining branches:

Voila..........2 barrows of logs in around 5 minutes..............hope you can make use of this.

I don't burn logs but I like it anyway!
Have seen some beautiful little tables made from logs screwed together upright so they make a level surface, then polished......this would sure help the measuring!

Nice work Biggun! Love the "double hopper" approach

I must admit, I don't use a log burner at the mo, but I am actually a fan of the standard saw horse. I'm also a handsaw/bowsaw and AXE person At last count I had a Roughneck splitting maul, a Gransfors Bruks (hand forged Swedish axes) Forest Axe and Wildlife Hatchet, Vaughan Mini hatchet, Roselli R850 bearded axe, and a wood grenade (plus a couple of cheapo axes). As for saws, it's usually a bowsaw with Bahco blade, Stanley FatMax crosscut saw or Bahco Laplander (SUPERB tool). I spent 18 days on a canal boat in sub-zero tempreraures with no electricity or running water in 2010 when we had the silly cold snap. Just a woodburning range, a smaller multifuel stove, a pile of logs, some bags of smokeless, some basic AA battery lighting (melting snow or using bottled water for cooking/drinking and washing) at temps down to -15C. Those tools saved my bacon, and without enduring that I'd have been unable to get to work and would have lost almost 3 weeks pay.

I'm not one for blades with engines though - I don't mind either separately, but don't trust myself with the two combined
