    Cuttings Tips?

    Does anybody have any ingenious methods for propagating cuttings?

    I find polythene bags, propped up with bamboo canes, held together by elastic bands so fiddly!!

    Have also tried clear plastic pint glasses placed over a 9inch pot - but it always seems to totally dry out!

    I was just wondering if anybody has any tried and tested ways that they might like to share.

    I start my cuttings in a glass of water. Once the roots appear I pot them up.
    Doesn't work for everything but worth a try.

      Cuttings Tips?

      When space is tight put mpc into the corner of a ziplock food bag and insert cutting then partially inflate the bag and seal it, these can then be pegged up to a string stretched across the window by the corner opposite the soil . They take up no space on the window sill , require no watering and as they are sealed and you can see the roots when they have rooted , through the clear plastic...........simple

          Fill a pot with soil but leave 1/2" at the top....do not firm.

          Top the 1/2" up with sharp sand.

          When putting a cutting in the pot, make a hole with a dibber first....the sand then gets mixed up a bit which stops the cutting getting too wet. Lightly firm.

          I find removing most of the foliage to stop water loss is good and if you can, bottom heat works a treat.

          If you don't put them in a sealed bag, spray over with tepid water as many times a day as poss.

            Did you mean this or did you mean fill pot with compost and top with sand?

                Thanks everybody, loads of useful tips as always. Made a shady spot out of a ladder, 2 buckets and a few rubble sacks!! Also bought about 100 zip lock bags!!!
