Anyone heard of hot dipping pots? what's your methods?

    Anyone heard of hot dipping pots? what's your methods?

    No? neither had I. Ive just been cleaning my trays and pots with a bit boiling water and bleach but apparently Hot dipping is a method using a mixture of ***** Fluid and hot water in a large container whereby you submerge your potted plants into the mixture killing any nasties like vine weevil etc, this method guarantees you don't over winter anything inside your potted plant.

    Whats your methods to keep away the nasties?

    Never washed a pot in my life. Just give them a brush out and store. Not enough time in the world for anything more for the amount I have in circulation

      Cant say I have either, like Alison I just give everything a good brush out when they are dry. Only time I use JF is to wash the greenhouse.

          I wash pots, but just a quick scrub with a toothbrush in cold water.

          I certainly wouldn't be putting potted plants in a mix of hot water and anything like jf as it sounds like it would kill all the soil fauna.

            very rare i wash pots,not enough hours in the day,i only do it when sowing very special/expensive seeds,
            sigpicAnother nutter ,wife,mother, nan and nanan,love my growing places,seed collection and sharing,also one of these

              I drop my pots into a bucket of water that gets rid of most of the compost then they're left to dry.

                I have a recycled 35 gallon plastic cold water storage tank. I fill this with a weak bleach solution and bung em in, I eventually remember to take em out and let them dry.

                  If they're dry, I give them a shake and tap to empty out any clinging dry soil, if wet, I swoosh them in the water butt. When/if the butt gets empty, I scoop out the sludge in the bottom and add to the dalek.

                    This thread reminds me of one of my old time favourite foods.

                    Back when I were nowt but a lad beef dripping on hot toast was a treat.

                      I wouldn't dunk my potted plants in Jayes Fluid or anything chemical - in fact, they're lucky if I water them.
