  • First time shower (and poster): shallot question

Hello. I'm an increasingly keen veg (and some fruit) gardener, and, having had a rush of blood to the head, am considering entering a few classes in the village flower & produce show at the end of July. I really do live in The Archers!

One of the classes I'm considering entering is shallots, as mine have done well. That's particularly satisfying as it's the first time I've ever grown them. I'm not sure how they should be presented, and there are no instructions on the entry form. Should I trim the roots and foliage and present them as you see them in the supermarkets, or should they be in all their leafy, rooty glory? Kept in a clump, or separated? Plaited even?

I'd be very grateful for any advice. Thank you
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

Have a look through this log Mrs Cordial. Keep scrolling and you'll get to the pictures of the shallots and other veg presented for showing. Exhibition show vegetables

Thanks rustylady. I've had a look at the link - wow! My veg are going to be nothing like that! I'm not terribly bothered about uniformity and so on so I'm probably not ideal show material. It was just for a bit of fun
