  • Will my Clematis re-grow?

I had a clematis growing over an arch in my garden. Unfortunately the arch needed to come down so I tried to dig up the clematis but was unsuccessful.
I thought I would cut my losses and seeing two thick stems sticking out of the ground I pulled on them. Both came up seperately with a large bunch of roots attached. If I pot these up, will my clematis re-grow

Did it flower in the spring or summer? Summer flowering clematis should be cut right back anyway. But if it has roots on it, I think this will have a good chance of surviving.

        Hi Capsid
It flowers around June. Should I cut the stem down before potting it up, it's about 8 inches long?

You're right there FionaH and that's my ethos when sowing and planting veg but I don't know too much about flowers but as you say 50/50 chance!

I'd leave them alone. Are the stems brown (last year's growth) or green (this year's growth)?

They're brown, previous years or even the year before that. It's older wood anyway.
