Sounds as if they've been over watered Sindy. You can actually almost dry out geraniums over the winter. If they get very wet and then get a touch of frost you get that mushy-ness. Try drying them off - you might get new shoots but I suspect they've had it really. Sorry.

oh no its the first thing ive tried to save, they have actually all got new shoots somewhere on them, what can i do, could i bring them in doors and dry them off, poor little things, or keep in greenhouse and hope for the best, i thought it strange as the cuttings i took that the soil was really dry looked really healthy.

If they have new shoots then all is not lost. I'd keep an eye on them for a month or two then take the new shoots as cuttings -geraniums root like weeds - pop about 5 round the edges of a 3" pot, in a compost which is nice and gritty -add a bit of grit if necessary - and you should get 3 or 4 of them striking - all if you're lucky.
Cut the cutting off at an angle with a sharp knife just below a leaf joint. Remove the leaf just above - and a few more if it's a very leafy cutting. This stops moisture loss through the leaves. Hope they come through for you.
