  • What type of fern in this?

This fern in growing in the trees where I work. There is a new road getting built there soon so I'm thinking about digging it up. But before I do I would like a little more information on it. Any help appreciated.

I think it's a male fern, Dryopteris filix-mas. But it might be a lady fern, Athyrium filix-femina. The two are similar in habit but the fronds are quite different in close-up. Here's a handy guide: http://www.ebps.org.uk/wp-content/up...rn-Guide01.pdf

I think it's a male fern as its not standing at a kitchen sink.

A lady fern would never stand at a sink. She'd leave that to the maidenhair.
