Im thinking of creating a border in my back garden and was hoping someone could could recommend some tall flowers, i will be planting them against a 4ft fence in the sun,if anyone knows of any tallish flowers i would be grateful.

Tall, or tallish?
I planted some foxgloves (seeds donated by a very kind grape) and thought they'd maybe reach 4-5ft.

Delphiniums perhaps, not much to look at in the first year but by eck do they make up for it in the second. Gladioli (think Morrisey and Dame Edna Everage) and, slightly smaller are snapdragons, they are very easy and come back every year.A garden is a lovesome thing, God wot! (Thomas Edward Brown)

Hollyhocks!
They grow taller than Wayne too - I have lots and lots and lots of saved seed courtesy of my BiL (he who knows not the meaning ot the word 'moderation') so pm me your addy if you'd like a shovelful!Comment

I'd definitely choose Hollyhocks, Delphiniums and Foxgloves. Climbing Roses and Clematis up the fence behind too. You can't have too much of a good thing.
That certainly excludes Red Hot Pokers - hate 'em!

I'd go for Hollyhocks - I planted some lovely ones in our old house - never saw them flower though. Ours reached about 4 1/2 feet, and I'm sure eventually looked marvellous for the new people!I don't roll on ShabbosComment

The white cosmos that I grew last year grew to about 4 ft & I didn`t have room for it so if you want any seeds pm me. With regards to Hollyhocks, I am sure they only flower the 2nd year so if saving seed you need to have seeds sown from the previous year as they take 2 years to flower. Japanese anemones look stunning and give loads of colour / interest in the autumn as well.

Elecampane is fantastic. Light green, slightly furry looking basal leaves and massive yellow flowers!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
