hi all, i have a new garden that i'm trying to get into shape. i have trimmed all the (very ) large shrubs and discovered loads of climbing roses which i am trying to give space to. Trouble is, how do i recognise what is a sucker? there are loads of new shoots from the ground but i'm not sure what was there before and is now romping because of increased light etc or what ia a sucker. Help please.

The leaves will look different (hopefully!) so you should be able to distinguish them from the 'proper' plant. -

Don't know about number of leaves,but suckers grow"beside"the rose and can be easily pulled.Comment
