  • Shrub identification

Hi, any help appreciated in attempting to identify this shrub.

I thought initially it was a bay but not so sure now. It was a 12 - 15 ft high and 7-8 ft wide before we chopped it back earlier this year.

It does have a sweet smell when cutting it or breaking the leaves.

    TIA

Just had a look at my bay tree. The flower buds are similar, some are fluffily open.
The leaves have a wavy edge though, not jagged or indented, just rippled! Yours look smooth.

Laurel (Prunus family). It smells of bitter almond when shredded.

It would have had white scented flowers. Fruits will go black.

It'll take heavy pruning. Grows back when you turn your back!

Thanks Danny, I've just looked at some Laurel pictures and the flowers match nicely.

This is the first year it's flowered probably as it was in desperate need of a prune
