  • Scented begonias

I had some scented begonia corms this year and they have done ok.
The flower quality was variable but the flower colours were very pretty.
The thing is they werent cheap and I want to keep them for next
    year.
Can anyone give me some advice?
    Many thanks

You can store the tubers overwinter like any tuberous begonia.

I got 5 free ones from T&M but they didn't send them until mid may when all my other tuberous begonias were a foot high !!! Anyway, i potted them into 3.5" pots and left them in the conservatory. I fed them and i now have 5 reasonable plants.....4 pink and a white one.

The trouble is, only one plant smells but it is quite strong and well worth the effort.

Just dry them off for the winter...you can either keep them in their soil and pots or tae them out and just store the tubers dry. I prefer the second method because these begonias are swines for vine weevil and you can see which ones have them.

      Good luck

        Cheers

Yes, I found these begonias variable to say the least. Some had rather
feeble looking flowers which really contrasted with the ones with beautiful woppers! As you say they were very variable regarding scent. I picked
some of the most scented and had them floating in a shallow blue ceramic
dish. I do the same with my hellebores in the spring.

Thanks for info Andy. I will give it a go.
