  • Rose aphid...

I've just noticed that 90% of my autumn planted roses are suffering with aphids and I'm gutted.
It actually makes my skin itch, they look awful!
I panic reacted due to this being my first garden as it were and a lot firsts all within the first year.
Rather than try non chemical treatment I raced to Wilkinson and bought some rose ultra clear and I've sprayed them all.
How quickly should I be looking at results? It doesn't appear that they have done much damage they just cover sections of each plant in large clumps.

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

Don't panic! Aphids can be treated by squirting with a fast jet of water & a little bit of liquid soap, once they fall of the plant I don't think they can get back on. Or squash them by hand. They don't do much damage but can you check for ants, because they farm aphids, they put the aphids on plants to feed off a sap they produce. I use those ant bait boxes, get rid of the ants.

I've also squirted them with cool dish water. That works. The grease an oils from food stop the aphids and even green fly from staying on the plant and it does not affect the plant in any way.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
A weed is just a flower in the wrong place.
