Problem with hydrangea

I have a hydrangea shrub in the garden that is showing signs of pest attack, a number is branch tips have been eaten through about three inches from the top, some nipped off completely others eaten through till the top had fallen over, I think it is snail's that are causing the problem, but not 100 percent sure,as I have never noticed this before, has anyone ever came across this?

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Member of the Nutters Club but I think I am just there to make up the numbers
