    Plant food

    Every year I have always used Miracle Gro plant food, and all the flowers etc seemed to really benefit from it.

    Last year I was given one of the ready to use Miracle gro feeders the one with a bottle of liquid, used it for the whole season but my hanging baskets and tubs did not do as well as in previous years.

    Does anyone else have experience of this particular feed ?, is it not as good or was it just a really cruddy year for the garden last year.

    I know it is way to early to be thinking about fertilisers etc, but trying to be optomistic about this years growing, if anyone else thinks the liquid version is crud, then I will be going back to the powder version..

    It was a rubbish season - I know that! I've used miracle grow before - did ok.

          Funny yo saying that, my fuscias were still popping new buds out in december,, never have before,, something to do with the weather then I guess.

          But still prefer the powder food, so much cheaper.

            I used MG as well.It depends on what kind of flowers you feed.As for lobelia i got them too leggy(should be in neat clumps).Worked well for the roses though.

              I used their slow release granules which seemed to work ok. Tho' as said not the best year for everything. They last in the ground for ages and don't seem to get eaten by anything.

                2008 was a crap year, let's hope 2009 is better as it can't be much worse!
                Haven't used miracle grow but I know of gardeners who swear by it. Can you get differnt fomulaes for flowers and leafy vegetables for instance?
                Flowers sometimes grow better when grown 'hard' with very little or no fertiliser at all!

                  Found the liquid MG not as good either but then that was last year so could've just been the season!
                  Never test the depth of the water with both feet

                  The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

                    I bought heaps of very cheap, slow release fertilizer pellets back from Thailand.
                    Everything seemed to flourish.
                    Never mind the TWADDLE here's the SIX PETALS.

                      I don't mind using ready fertilizers for flowers but as for veg I'd rather not use an other than manure and my compost bins.

                        Yep, it has to be said that miracle grow and the ilk ae all 'artificials' (not organically derived) as my old gaffer used to say and I try to stay as organic as I can by using FYM comfrey, comfrey tea, BFB and chicken poo etc
