  • Perennials in raised beds

Hi everyone. I used to post on this forum quite a lot years ago, but have only recently got back into gardening.

I have new raised beds in which I have been growing veg - largely courgettes, tomatoes, cucumbers and garlic. I also have a lot of perennials which are currently in pots, which I have grown from seed and cuttings. I'm moving everything around in my garden at the moment and I don't have any permanent place to put some of these plants in at the moment. I am thinking that these plants will thrive better throughout the winter if I put them in the raised beds once I have pulled the veg out.

Is there any reason why this isn't a good idea - e.g. pests & diseases?

    Many thanks

    Jools

    Hi Jools - welcome back
Is this a temporary measure and you'll be planting them into a permanent spot in spring?
If so, could you plunge the pots into the soil now - they'll be easier to pull out next year.

Hi Veggie. Thank you. Hopefully I'll be planting some of them next spring. But our local gardening club has a spring sale, so some of them will be going into that. I like the idea of plunging the pots in the bed. If the roots escape a little, they should still be easy to get out.

But the veggies won't have damaged the soil as far as the plants are concerned?
