  • Overwintering help required, please (for some plants, not me)...

I’m planning to make a corner wildflower border in my garden for next year, and although I’ll be seeding the newly prepared area this Autumn, I’m also planning to use a number of plants – some Ox-Eye Daisies and Lysimachia Punctatas - which I intend to transplant into the border in the Spring.

I realise I might be a bit if a twit in buying them at this time of the year as I now have to overwinter them, and feel that I planted them out now they’d be easy to prey to marauding slugs and other little beasties. I also realise that should probably be hardy enough to survive a Winter outside – and the Lysimachias are outside in big pots already – so do other members reckon they’d be OK if I potted the Ox-Eye Daisies up as well when they’ve grown enough to take on the big world?

I’m thinking of protecting the pots with a defence line of copper tape, but short of another try with nematodes (a distinct fail earlier this year) and/or calling down air strikes, I’m at a bit of a loss at to what to do.

Could anyone offer their thoughts on this one, please?

      Reply to VeggieChicken:

      Hello again, VeggieChicken

      Thank you for your reply.

I'm fine, thank you, and hoping to (finally!) be a bit more active from here from now on. I know I've said that scores of times, but I'm even thinking of taking out a new subscription to the mag, so I'll be all revved up and bursting with enthusuasm then (I am already, actually, but you'd barely know it...).

As you may remember, I've had a trouncing from the slugs this year, but have all sorts of renewed plans for next year, and I need the comfort an solace of the Forum and the mag to keep me going though the the coming Arctic lockdown...

Have a happy rest of Friday, and speak again soon.

      regards
      Graham
