hello, the first one looks like a Photinia, the fourth one looks like a large Cordyline .The others are not clear from the photos, have you got all these in your garden?Quite a selection.

In the first batch, 3 is euonymus, 4 is ceanothus (I think) and 5 is Mahonia (Oregon Grape)

sorry bout the photo i thought close up would be better number 8 is a toughy as it hasnt come out yet deffinatly not a clematis for i have 2 of them. and one isnt a fushia as i have one of them too. I was fortunate to have a biggggggg garden even though im a bit lost on what to do with it as i'm used to tiny yard but will post more piccies during working progress, none produce fruit and they are all big and bushy if that helps at all all i can do is wait till the others have come out more and post more piccies number 9 i though was a twisted hazel because of the way it wraps round everything has no flowers just light green coloured flat leaves, again i'm hopless, if that helps at all im going to google the rest of the suggestions and see which ones matches hate not knowing stuff will post which ones right then puzzle over the others. many thanks guys

(piccy 3) deffinatly euonymus fortunei emerald'n'gold,
(piccy 4)californian lilac ceanothus.
(piccy 5 ) i call this the evil plant as it gives me a rash when i prune (if you can call it pruneing you need a chainsaw to get though the bugger) is deffinalty mahonia.
(piccy 6) photinia "red robin" i love this one looks better now i pruded it was all spindley when i moved in
(piccy 9 ) cordyline mountain cabbage tree. another one thats a pain anyone have any ideas what i can do with the forever shedding leaves as they don't compost
1, 2, 7, and 8 to go i thought 2 was a pittosporum still trying to find a piccy that looks like it though
great many thanks to everyone n.b. seems vicky knows her shrubs we know who to hassel next time
these shrubs are huge so if anyone wants some cuttings i dont mind experimenting and posting

I think 7 is probably some sort of 'wild' plum/damson/sloe type thing. I thought it had thorns? Hence Blackthorn.
Is there a fruit tree/wild hedge nearby that it could sucker from?
Go on, give us some more photos!

No 3 is def a pieris (very pretty and worth keeping if it's in the right place) and no 5 is def a mahonia (nasty spiky thing that when it loses its leaves they don't rot down and years later you get spiked, but it does give yellow colour in winter when there isn't much else to flower)

no idea on the others!

janeyo

had another look at the pics and no3 is no longer a pieris but one of those plants they always put in supermarket carparks to fill the space quickly.

I think you've got

1. Spirea 'Goldflame'
2. Pittisporum
3. Euonymus (probably Emerald and Gold)
4. Ceanothus
5, Mahonia
6. Photinia
7. Difficult - could be winter honeysuckle as someone else suggested, but the flower also could be plum family.
8. Hmm.... it could even be a wisteria, but I think we'll have to wait to see the leaves
9. Cordyline

Hope that helps.

I'm sticking with plant 1 = lillac
Plant 7 = some sort of plum/greengage - you said it hadn't produced fruit?
Plant 8 = Aggghhh I don't know (and I hate to admit that!) Post another piccie when that bud opens!

Celastrus orbiculatus (Look in the section on the left, esp the flowers and leaves)

Think I've got it!
Celastrus orbiculatus
Chinese Bittersweet, Oriental Bittersweet

Have a google of it, seems it has nice berries but a tendancy to be invasive...

(I admit to being a plant geek!)
