  • hanging baskets on the cheap?

    Hi Guys

I normally plant toms in the hanging baskets but fancy a change around this year. I'm looking for some flowery loveliness to go in them. Today I bought some of those cheap fabric liners from Wilko and already have the 30cm wire frames, so I just need the plants.

I know nothing about flowers So what would make a nice simple mix and where can I get them cheap? Not particularly fussed about colours but I can't grow from seed this year. I had a quick look in Wilko today bit they all looked a bit sorry for themselves and not particularity cheap either!

    Any Advice Appreciated.

Fuchsias are brilliant, you can plant trailing lobelia in with them. Also trailing geraniums. We put baby spiderplants in ours too. You don't need loads of plants either, they will soon fill the basket.

If you are growing in full sun, I would suggest geraniums. I keep the fuchsias and busy lizzies for the shadier bits to hang my baskets in - these are then followed up with ivies and mini cyclamen for the winter.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Aldis have packs of plants in for different uses. They are £3.99 for 12 and they do have a hanging basket mix. There's also a patio pot mix and trailing fushia and geranium mix. It might be worth taking a look.

If you buy a couple of decent sized trailing geraniums now then you can take a load of cuttings from them and have loads of extra plants for free.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

              Hi there!!!

Petunias bush out well and last all summer as long as you dead head.
They would look nice with nasturtiums too.
