I know it's a bit early but does anyone take cuttings from hanging basket plants for next year. I like to have 6-7 hanging baskets each summer and I found it quite easy to make cuttings from the 'trailing' plants (Nepata, Diasca, Bidens, Helichrysum, Bacopa, Verbena etc) that were bought from DIY stores.

Is it possible to keep the cuttings going (from new cuttings or existing plants) right through to next year by taking the plants indoor during the winter. I noticed that certain plants from previous year's hanging basket springing back to life if left in the basket. I've also had Lobelia seeding freely on my patio...makes you wonder what else you can have for free.

To your list I would add petunia - surfinia and million bells. The later you take the cuttings the shorter time you have to keep them. Once you have them established, you can take cuttings from your rooted cuttings. It all depends on the space in the greenhouse/house and heating.

I would also add osteospermums and marguerites. They are a little bit harder to root, but are well worthwhile.

Oh, and my absolute favourites - fuchsias.
