  • Germinating Rose Seeds

Has anyone successfully germinated seeds from rosehips?
On my way out of the allotment the other day I noticed that the birds haven't eaten all the rosehips as usual so picked a few. We have dogroses around the perimeter fence for security and as a bit of a windbreak. As we have a few gaps I thought I'd try to grow a few, with a view to planting out in the Autumn.
I've cleaned the seed from the hips - really sticky job and have a good pile of seeds. Now I can't decide whether to give them a cold spell in the fridge for a few weeks, as we've had no prolonged cold spells this winter, or just get on and sow them. I could put them in the heated propagator, windowsill, cold greenhouse, coldframe or outside. I could try some chilled and some not but I could send up with pots everywhere.
    Ideas appreciated. No urgency...

Why not just take some cuttings?? Not tried the seeds , I presume it's a long process from seed to flower...

Could do cuttings, just that the hips were there for the picking!

Hmm, you know that you will have 100's of other seedlings hanging around for the next few months?? My mum has germinated some but they were bought as a gift, they did germinate but I'm sure they took a long time and I can't remember what happened after they germinated... Not much help really
