  • French marigolds

Morning all I've got some french marigolds currently in a cold frame day and night, can they bolt? I sowed them early march I think and there nearly ten inches tall all leaves and no flowers is this normal? Thanks

Flowers don't bolt Spunky - that is a term used for vegetables that produce flower stems when they shouldn't (like onions).

It's a bit early for French Marigolds to be flowering. You say they're very tall - are they in individual pots, or crammed together in a tray?

Thanks rusty there in individual extra large coffee cups, some with 6" of growth no flowers yet, the roots touch the bottom of the cup I had to bury them deeper when I potted them on

Definitely French? (rather than African that are taller)

Although they sound healthy to me, rather than "giant"

About a month too early, really. They are tender, and won't tolerate much cold: they can go outside probably late May, when night temps are up in double figures

Mine are flowering and desperate to be planted out. Suggests crowding if they are that tall?

Mine didn't even get sown till mid June last year, and actually did quite well for me. Another vote for "too early" here

Sowed mine about a week ago in the cold greenhouse. Just coming through now.
