  • flower colours and their effects

I have just finished reading The Healing Garden by Gay Search and I thought you might be interested in some of the coments she makes about flower colour.
Red-colour of energy, love and passion. It is a stimulant raising blood pressure and heart rate. It can pick you up when you are feeling lethargic or depressed giving a boost of energy, mental and physical.
Orange-the colour of joy and movement
Yellow-optimistic and stimulatingbut this time to the intellect
There is more, what do you think

That is interesting as I will be removing all the yellow or pale coloured flowers from
my south facing back garden this spring. The colour scheme will be restricted to
bright hot pinks, strong blues, strong purples and a touch of fiery red. This must say
something about the way I feel at the mo!
To be fair though I was also inspired by Sarah Ravens and the late great Christopher Lloyds gardens.

I always like to put the pale colours far away from me - white at the end of the garden. Reds and hot colours near the house. That way, your eye is drawn to the reds first then it ambles along to the pale flowers. Makes your garden look longer!
The white flowers are always the last to 'go' at night. In summer it's lovely to see white flowers hovering in the gloom of a warm evening - oh, roll on summer!
Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
