  • Do you feed trees?

I'd like to know if you can feed trees. If you can what do you feed them with and is this the correct time of year to do so. I have a mixture of young fruit, non fruit & evergreens.

I never feed trees or shrubs, but the fruit bearers get a mulch of leafmold if I remember

A bit of Fish blood and bone wouldn't do them any harm

I mulch most of my fruit trees with well rotted chicken manure. However, the damson
has to cope - it's in the chicken's free ranging area and tends to get a bit scrabbled at the roots. It's managing fine. At this stage I think its roots go a lot farther than I suspect.

I did wonder because some of the evergreens have a yellow tinge to the ends of leaves and I thought they were missing something. As you probably know its heavey clay around here; shall I go with the fish blood & bone [sounds lovely uuuuk!] if so how do i apply it?

Could be the hard winter. I've got frost damage for the first time on a eucalyptus.

I used Sulphate of Potash on my fruit trees last year but unfortunately they were attacked by both aphids and ants. So I shall give them a dose again this year (sprinkled around the base) and see if it helps with fruit production.
