Do these climbers sound good?

    Do these climbers sound good?

    I have a very small garden which is mostly paved, so I'm limited for the things I can grow. I've got an archway and a wall with trellis (about 2.5m wide) in the shady back garden, and some trellis up the front of my house (full sun) so I want to grow some climbing plants with the aim of having something nice to look at all year round. I'm a total beginner at gardening and don't have a lot of time to spend on it, so my main concern is that they don't get out of control and take over the whole garden! My favourites would be:
    - jasmine
    - winter jasmine
    - quince
    - grape vine
    - kiwi
    - camellia
    - clematis

    Obviously there are different varieties of these that have different characteristics, but do any of these plants jump out at you for being unsuitable for small spaces and a gardener who doesn't know what she's doing?!

    Not much of an idea here to be honest- but I thought camellia grew as a shrub??
    ..and that quince and kiwi were trees???
    The others would certainly be suitable

    Maybe there are new varieties of the others which would be good at climbing???

    you can certainly buy a dwarf variety of kiwi which may be OK??

      OK, I guess by 'climber' I meant anything that can be trained up a wall. As far as I know, camellia, quince & kiwi all do quite well grown like this.

        yup- I'd agree with that!!!

          I'd consider climbing or rambling roses too - you could grow clematis or annual climbers through it as well, to prolong the interest. Sweet peas?
          Clematis vary hugely in terms of how vigorous they are, so think about how much space you want it to fill (and how much pruning you want to do) before buying!
          Oh and passionflowers are great too.

            What about an evergreen clematis, we have one growing on a North facing wall - doing really well, downside there isnt any scent (on ours at least).

            PS Honeysuckle may also be an option

              For summer interest and scent I would add Sweet Peas and the climbing rose Zepherin Drouhin. The rose is pink, thornless and beautifully scented - and it will grow in shade.
