  • Cut roses are hanging their heads.

Anyone got a cure for this? I bought a great bunch of cut roses for the house at Chrismas and they've all got a very guilty look about them. Advice please!!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Cut 1/2" off the bottom of them and put them is fresh cool water somewhere cooler. If you've got a corner shop you could try buying some cheapo lemonade and put them in that, they'll take the sugars up and feed the blooms. A drop of Milton in the water helps as well as it stops bacteria and algae forming.

    Merry Christmas

I would recut the stems at a sharp angle with sharp seccateurs which lets them take upmore water, then plunge the ends into boiling water for 20 seconds and then give them a deep drink in tepid water for a few minutes. This is the classic flower-arrangers' way of conditioning them for arranging.

Advice from an experienced florist (not me!) - the aspirin/lemonade/etc things don't work (sorry). The best thing is as Flum says, a very sharp seccateur for an angled cut, fresh water every day, not just when they look like they need it, and tepid water best.

I always follow this advice - seems to work.
