Default crocosmia?

I love crocosmia and have various clumps, either inherited or that I put in as plants (as opposed to bulbs). its all coming up lovely now, but I planted various summer bulbs, including crocosmia, about 2 months ago, and not a sign of most of them. any ideas? just wait and see? could it be that new bulbs take longer to show than established ones?

Just be patient...I planted some gladioli months ago and thought they were a waste of time but this morning I noticed a few shoots poking through the ground. I was so relieved! I'm still waiting to see if the globe thistles I planted at the same time are going to come up. Something tells me that I've lost those though...

Be patient FVV, they'll come in their own time. having no patience myself I planted some new Crocosmia (Lucifer) in pots indoors to get them started. Now about 6" high and hardening off outdoors. Will plant them out later this week but yours will pop up by themselves.

FVV
Agree with NIck and Eskymo - think you may be suffering from the same complaint as most of suffer with from time to time - Gardener's Impatience.
I have the common montbretia (orange) and they're romping away but my crocosmia Lucifer are only showing their tips at the moment.

FVV - I'm having the same problem too. Planted loads of crocosmia in pots nearly two months ago and not a sign of anything yet. I was wondering whether I had bought duff bulbs as last year's ones in the garden are a good 3/4 inches out of the ground.

my bulbs seemed ok when I put them in - did various others, including anemone, acidanthera and soemthing else I cant remember, and not a sign of them either. maybe they are waiting for it to warm up a bit.

There is clearly a trend going on here as I planted some crocosmia bulbs a month or two back and there's no sign of them either. I guess they must just take ages to do their thing. It's reassuring to see that other people are having the same issue.

They may have dehydrated in the garden centre and so they need to plump up a bit first I guess. If they haven't come up this time next year I'd worry

I've had the same problem with crocosmia in the past. Planted them in the ground and never saw them again. What I do now is plant them in a pot and plant them out when about 6" high.

I've planted lots of summer bulbs too, some in pots & some in the ground & only one or two are showing signs of life- no crocosmias yet though but the established ones I already have are massive. I think I planted some in the ground last year as well & they didn't come up at all, perhaps it is best to start crocosmia off in pots as some of the others have done & I do think that they can be too dehydrated when you buy them as bulbs/corms (whichever they are!).

Good idea FV! We have the horticultural sale of plants tomorrow, so I may be able to sneak some back and pass them off as my own

I won a plant in the raffle at school on Friday - tis a standard solanum, apparently its a patio plant. but I put a tiny one into the back bed 2 yrs ago, and its now a 10' giant - just wondering if I can try it with this one.

if it is a gnome Jennie, just pretend you are in a bad taste competition with a family member - my OH and brother have done this for a couple of years now, and there are some memorable presents. one is a gnome with a solar powered 'welcome' sign (now lives outside kids' wendy house). we retaliated with a mannekin pis corkscrew from Brussels. oh, the laughs we have!!!

Its a snail! Unfortunately rather tiny for our garden, but it is my first real garden ornament

I like the idea of a mannekin pis corkscrew

I've got shoots coming out of my crocosmia pots. No sign of the dahlias or crysanthemums yet though

Warmer weather was obviously needed.
