  • clematis is it to late to prune

hi all just wondering if it is too late to prune my small flowering clematis as it is quite large and spreading it would be more of a tidy up rather than a hard cut back but it is now shooting leaves it is a strong and healthy plant on a north facing wall

If it's a spring flowering one, you may cut off shoots that would have flowered but you are unlikely to kill it.

If it's a summer flowering one (flowers on this years growth), you can cut it back quite hard if you want.

So I would go for it, if you leave it the problem will only get worse.
