  • Another silly question

I want to use weed membrane over the new stumpery bed, and them mulch with wood chip. My question is how do you add organic matter to it once it's established? Thanks

I'd use cardboard as the membrane and mulch over the top. As the card degrades the mulch breaks down. Punch holes through wet cardboard to plant. Add more mulch over time to feed the plants and surpress weeds.

Another silly question back.. What is a "stumpery bed"? Ah! found it on WIKI.

Ok my question would be why would you need organic material other than wood rubbish. So add more wood chips which have been festering in plastic bags The plants you use will "feed" off the wood debris. More important will probably be the wood louse and the death watch beetles you buy in to break down the wood trees.

Tongue in cheek; you could look out for bear, moose, elk or various bird poo to "fill" the gap.

Good Luck and hope the beds mature well.

Thanks for the advice. Spot on as usual. Been doing a bit of research myself and decided you guys are right. I will cover the bed in cardboard and composted bark and leave it till spring when it will be planted up
