Hi, new to this and not sure I'm in the right place, but I think I recall reading a list re planting flowers on the allotment through weed fabric but they had been grown on in pots before planting out - have I dreamt this or could some kind soul point me in the direction of the original post? Thank you

most of us sow into little pots before planting out,there is probably a few threads with titles like - planting through weed suppressant,there's been a few regarding strawberries. If you start seeds off in little pots first,the plant can grow big enough so it's not destroyed by slugs. It might be easier if you ask lots of questions here,it might be difficult to find the actual thread but we'll try

Yes,but also if you're growing from seed,germinate the seeds in pots then when they're about an inch tall pot up each seedling into individual pots,grow on & harden off then plant them about 10-12 inches apart.Location : EssexComment

For me - I wouldn't waste my weed suppressant by cutting holes in it for flowers on the allotment. I'd save it for soil that is not getting used and just plonk the flower plugs right into the ground.
However, I suppose people do different things, so do your own thing, 'I suppose'.
(does that even make sense).

I have done this in our communal front garden. I laid weed suppressant on the ground, placed my irrigation pipes on top and then cut a hole next to the drip outlet (spaced 30 cm apart) and planted pelagorniums and gazanias. I am waiting for my gazanias that are now in individual paper cups to be big enough to transplant and then I will cut more holes in the suppressant to accomodate them. I don't know what type of suppressant is available in the UK but here I am using a black woven plastic that comes in widths of one or two metres. It has certainly stopped the proliferation of grass weeds and the weeds only come up alongside the plants where they can easily be pulled up.Comment
