  • Advice on roses

I have been given 2 handsome roses for my birthday and they are in 2 containers I estimate 15 litres each. My problem is the place I want to plant them will be occupied until the autumn.
Will they survive in these pots until then? They have grown and flowered in the pots and look very healthy.

    I don't see why not.
...not that I know much about roses!
Make sure they are well watered and fed....maybe keep them out of full sun ( if we ever get a summer!)
If they hadn't been bought for you, they might have been kept in those pots for several more weeks.

    Nice pressies by the way!

They say on David Austin that they will be fine for at least 6 weeks in the delivered pot from them,

But I have had some bare root ones i bought, planted in b&q compost in morisons flower buckets for 4 years now no fertiliser for 3 years , this year they were only growing slowly last year they were fine , I added rose food and moved them out of thee shade into full sun and they are growing fine again, ready to be planted instead of ignored.

They will be fine in those pots. Just ensure that in warm/hot spells that the soil does not dry out. Push a finger down into the first inch of soil as a moisture check. If they get mildew that's one sign that the roots are getting dry too often. Also spray every 2 weeks with a fungicide for black spot. Feed once a month with liquid fertilizer, such as Miracle Gro or tomato feed.

I've only just planted out my DA roses
When they were delivered the beds weren't ready so I bunged them in supermarket flower buckets. They are now a ouple of feet tall - with flowers on.
