Default Wisteria in a pot?

We want to grow a wisteria up the front of our house, but we have hardcore/gravel not soil. Can you grow a reasonable sized wisteria in a pot? Is there a particular variety that might do best in this situation??? How big must the pot be?

Hi Sweetcorn, I don't see why you can't grow a wisteria in a pot but you might have to keep it a bit smaller than one growing in the gound & you would have to make sure you feed & water it well. There's a bit of advice here from the RHS in the link below about pruning & growing a standard wisteria in a pot which might be useful.

I have one in a pot, bought it a couple of years ago. It's not flowered yet but looks lovely.
