These are apparently Vaccinium myrtillus - or bilberry.
Anyone grow them?
Are they fussy on soil?

Lovely, but not worth growing at home I think. They grow wild on moorland, so acid soil. -

Whinberry, Bilberry, or Whortleberry, VVG. I wouldn't give up space in my garden to anything that I could forage for - and that includes Whinberries

If anyone is up near Aberwystwyth there are literally hundreds of bilberry bushes around devil's bridge waterfalls. The walk to them is a killer though

Yeah I've been told where they are fairly local - if you don't mind a decent drive and then a walk... Just think having them a bit closer would be handy.Comment

Back breaking work picking them! Where I grew up there was a huge patch of common land and they grew there. My mum used to get my sister and I to pick them....child labour
