  • white bulbs

so I bought the "citrus" pack off Thompson & Morgan last year, one lemon/lime/orange, (x2, so I have 2 of each) I removed the naming off them as I love to be surprised by what plant is what etc. well one of the 6 plants has grown sharp thorns on it, and none of the others have, however one of them has got "white bulbs" growing, anyone idea what they are please, I am unable to take a photo.

What do you mean by "white bulbs"? Are they on the roots?

It sounds like it could be a surprise what ever they are.

not on the roots, on the stem and side branches of the small plant. I have no idea what is going on, I have never grown citrus before, so im not sure if it will somehow become a flower, or a fruit, or god-knows what, the best way to describe what it looks like is, think of a Satsuma without the peel, you got individual pieces of orange stuck together to form a bulb of fruit if that makes sense, it looks exactly like that

The spikey one is probably a lemon.

What size are the white bulbs - are they elongated, round? How many segments are there to them? Are they ar the leaf nodes or are they growing on a seperate spike/twig?

Jay-ell : the second picture, that's them, thank you !!!!. they are MUCH MUCH smaller though, and more round than long if that makes sense. they have 5 segments and they are growing out right where the leaves stem out.

are they lemon ? its strange, because I have two lemons, two limes, two orange, but only 1 of the trees has spikes, and only 1 has these white bulbs

Veggie Chicken - I enjoy the surprise as what fruit grows on what, however I was worried as this is the first time I have ever tried growing them, so white bulbs set off a major alarm in my head,

                      Assuming you have lemons.

And that you've done the needful with your paintbrush...or the bees have done it for you

                        Hopsflower - whats a "needful?

its opened up into a flower one of the white bulbs has, and it smells disgusting, like damp sick so I am a bit concerned about that one

Needful = hand pollination, tickling the pollen from one flower to another.

Telling the difference between lemons and limes should be easy - lemons are yellow but are green when unripe. Limes are green but go yellow when allowed to. See simples (would have been easier with labels )

What Jay-ell said. If your plants are inside, just give it a tickle round the middle of the flower with a soft paintbrush, and when a few flowers open up, do them all in turn. If your plants are outside, don't worry about it as the bees love the flowers (at least they do here ).

The scent can be pretty powerful I agree, so I probably wouldn't worry too much about how it smells. I suspect it's one that you either love or hate.
