  • Where to Buy Strawberry Plants?

Do you know which company are selling the cheapest strawberry plants at the moment?

I've seen 12 runners for £7.50- and that's the cheapest!

Are runners ok to be planted out now?

    Hi
You can buy runners all over the place - I bought some from Ebay at 5 runners for £2.99 free post - they are lovely and healthy too. Its worth shopping around.

Definately plant them now....or maybe after the storms
If they are really exposed, you could always pot them up and replant where you want them next year. Although they need a cold spell, so you dont have to protect them as much.

    Hope that makes sense...

I bought the Mr Fothergills Cambridge Favourites for £2.95 and they seem to be doing ok. I wasn't sure what to expect as they were so cheap but all seem to have survived the post (they did just arrive in a padded envelope).

I bought 25 Aromel from J Parkers for £6.90 plus postage £3.95. They include 30 free deffodils and there are loads of hard to resist offers too. They arrived yesterday, well packaged and I hope to unpack them tomorrow and plant them.

Try your local garden centre. Mine were selling tatty looking plants off for 50p each with runners attached. I got 3 plants and 5 runners for £1.50.

Our local GC is selling Cambridge Favourite for £2.99 EACH! what worries me is that some people must pay that or they'd never put them out at that that price. I just bought some for £8.99 for 12, I think from Dobies, they were a variety that I wanted though (Royal Sovereign). I've had Cambridge Favourite in a raised bed on the lottie for quite some time, but have had small crops due to losses to mice/slugs etc. They're a lovely strawberry, but I wanted something a little less vigourous as they're going in hanging baskets in an attempt to protect them long enough for me to eat them.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
