  • Victoria plum - frighteningly heavily laden

I've a viccy plum - less than 10 years old - that flowered heavily and looks like every flower set. The boughs are already beginning to bow over with the weight. I know there will be the June Drop but at what point do I go in and attempt to limit the amount of fruit ?

You can pick out every other fruit or you can shore the branches up with props. You can make these from branches of hazel, sycamore etc. Make them like a clothes-line prop, put under the vulnerable branches and gently lift to support them.
I have to do this with a young apple tree this year.
